The Thommies took place May 3 in the PAC. The Thommies are Warren Central’s version of the Oscars.
The awards ceremony is named after Tom Fiet, a former drama and speech teacher. The award ceremony is a chance to celebrate all the effort and time put into the Drama department throughout the school year. This includes awards for actors, actresses and everything in between.
There were 13 award categories. The students of the drama department vote for the nominees and the award winners.
Junior Alexis Weaver, publicity officer, won the award for Outstanding Actress in a Leading Role in the musical “Don’t Drink the Water.”
“It was nice that my peers thought so highly of my performance,” Weaver said.
Publicity officer junior Brannon Bowers was awarded Outstanding Actor in a Leading Role in “Don’t Drink the Water.”
“It was great to get an award from my fellow students who are in the same position I am in,” Bowers said.
Senior Miranda Nehrig, Drama Club President, won the award for Outstanding Actress in a Leading role in the play ‘Don’t Drink the Water.”
Along with the awards at the Thommies, the Thespian Chapter was reopened. A Thespian is anyone who has devoted his or her time to the drama department.
“ The Thespian chapter is like National Honor Society for theatre,” Weaver said.
New members were inducted to the Thespian Club. The club runs on a point system. A student has to be involved or have seen 10 plays or more in order to be inducted.
The drama officers thought that this year was successful.
“The last night of ‘Don’t Drink the Water’ was my favorite event because there was such a huge crowd,” Bowers said.
Weaver reminisced about the first musical of the school year.
“ ‘Godspell’ was phenomenal and the talent was incredible,” Weaver said.
Next year is sure to be exciting. The Drama department has selected “Little Shop of Horrors,” for next year’s musical.
“It is going to be fun and there are a lot of technical opportunities,” Weaver said.
